As hinted at, I’ve been using Manga Studio 5 under Linux/wine. So far, only one major hassle: under too many circumstances, the stylus has to fight for focus, alternating with something else.

Unlike GIMP (or Photoshop or other tools), MS has tools that cater to comic drawing. Some pluses:

  • 3D model tool (played a little with this)
  • perspective rulers (haven’t played with this, yet)
  • rulers in any shape you want (used this today)
  • coloring tools (obviously didn’t use this)

The pdf manual has a few issues:

  • 685 pages (a plus!)
  • but NO index or table of contents (WTF, Smith Micro?)
  • oh, yeah, and the menu images are in Japanese (gambatte you poor English-only users)
